Hello & Welcome To Year 1
Welcome to Year 1 at de Vere primary school, our class is taught by Miss Tsoi and supported by Mrs Swanwick, Mrs Few and Miss Merritt. This year we are joined by Mrs Laccohee who will be undertaking her teacher training.
In Year 1 at de Vere, we encompass the schools’ vision to promote a love of learning to continue throughout the children’s lives. We view each child as individuals and aim to enable them to be skilled communicators, creative and active learners who know and remember more. Please ensure you read the newsletter which will come out every 2 weeks on a Friday. This will contain the most up to date information about what is going on in school and links to the website where our class blog will be updated with what we have been getting up to.
Woods
Our woods session will be on a Thursday afternoon led by Mr Mooney. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather in their black woods uniform. Wellie boots can be kept in school.
P.E
Our PE lessons will be on a Friday. Please provide your child with a PE kit consisting of; black shorts and jogging bottoms, a coloured house team top and jumper, trainers/plimsols. Please note that earrings must be removed prior to the lesson either at home or by the child. Teachers are unable to help with this.
Curriculum
Year 1 is the beginning of our pupils’ journey into the National Curriculum. We ensure there is a smooth transition for our children as they move on from the Reception year into Key Stage 1. During the autumn term we continue to learn through purposeful play and carefully transition into a more structured learning style when the children are ready.
Uniform
Please ensure the correct uniform is worn to school every day. All items of uniform must be named (including shoes, tights, vests etc!). Any unnamed items will be taken to lost property.
Homework & Expectation
A reading book matched to your child’s phonic level will be sent home to read. Please read at least 4 times a week and keep a record of this in your child’s reading record. This will be checked weekly in school. Starting after October half term, a list of spellings will be shared with you that the class will be focusing on school. You have the option to practice these at home.
